Heart.
It's the difference maker. Sounds dramatic, I know. We're news-people, often cynical. But, anyone can regurgitate facts, name street corners, recount details and have no impact. Does your story move the viewer, light up imagination, pull them into the moment, inspire them to action? Will they turn their heads for that moment, to listen, to engage? Heart.
My name is Sachelle Reed and for more than 15 years I've worked on my craft as a journalist, using sound, video and the power of words to make a difference. In the field, my storytelling as a reporter has empowered victims, held leaders accountable, and cleaned up neighborhoods. On the desk, that same passion in the field translates, creating community engagement, building on trust, and continuing to tell the stories that matter, beyond the details. Natural disasters, extreme violence, community turmoil, medical advances, or mundane local dealings, there aren't many stories I haven't told, but I take special care to find the nugget in each to connect the viewer to what's happening.
My work has gained national attention and has been seen on CNN, CBSN, and CBS Nightly News. I've led coverage in Republican National Convention, Pulse Massacre, hurricanes Matthew and Irma, police shootings and local outcry, and the deaths of several officers. I know breaking news and I know how to make a filler story 'pop' in the newscast. I'm a well-rounded journalist.
Please check out my work below, my most recent reel as morning anchor for Spectrum News in Wisconsin. Also included, the full interview with Rep. Derrick Van Orden, as they are short clips within the reel. Here's a link to download my resume:
